Health insurance for pregnant women
If you are planning to become pregnant, confirm a health insurance that includes pregnancy and for that you need to plan. While you are pregnant don't try to switch jobs and if you get a job it will take a longer time maybe two or three months to cover yourself with Health Insurance. So be cautious to change jobs while you are expectant. If you have not insured try to apply for medical aid and meet the program's low-income requirement. If you are working with a potential employer and he/she offers health insurance make sure that the insurance covers maternity or if you are working as professional in an organization try to get on a group health plan since it costs less. Now find out whether your employer covers the benefit of health insurance including pregnancy, adoption and birth and also see if it provides maternity, preventive and well-baby care. If a woman is unmarried and bears a child, she won't be covered in her fiancé or boyfriend's group health plan because she carries his child and there is no legal requirement, and the insurance depends on the notion of health plan. However, the bachelor father can cover the baby into his group health plan after getting the consent of the mother in writing. However, a woman can add her child to her plan without any problem but she has to pay high premiums. To have full information about the health insurance go through the detail information provided by the state insurance department.
COBRA is one of the best options to apply for the covering of pregnancy insurance to the qualified workers, their spouses and their dependent children if they are between plans and covers any provisional period between the health plans. COBRA stands for Consolidate Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act that allows an employee or the dependent of an employee to cover insurance for 18 to 36 months sponsored by the employer if the employee drops the employment for any reason except "gross misconduct". COBRA does not cover employer health benefit plans if the employer engages less than 20 employees. The COBRA coverage includes termination of employment but for gross misconduct, death of a covered employee, an employee entitled to Medicaid or dependent child ceases to be dependent.
If you want to have an individual insurance while pregnant the chances are less, however, if the policy is offered it will last only for a few months with high premiums
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) excludes pregnancy considering it a pre-existing condition, which means changing plans during pregnancy should not create problems. However, there are plenty of exceptions to the rules. HIPAA doesn't allow those who had earlier no health coverage at all and later get into a group health plan through a new job. This means while you are pregnant then you got a new job with insurance, your new health plan will not cover your pregnancy at once. So you have to wait some longer time to cover that and until then you have to pay for the doctor.
Another rule is that the HIPAA applies only to group health plans. If you are pregnant and have individual insurance then join group health insurance. Hence you are subjected again to a pre-existing condition and have to wait some more time.
In case of your childbirth, adoption or placement for adoption then make a visit to your health plan within 30 days and request a special enrollment to cover the result. And if the newborn or adopted child is enrolled with a span of 30 days of birth or adoption, he is included in the health insurance for pre-existing conditions. If a plan covers maternity or newborn benefits under the Newborns' and Mothers' Health Protection Act, it should allow mothers and newborns to stay for at least 48 hours after normal delivery and 96 hours for a cesarean delivery unless the physician and the mother agree for an earlier discharge.
The workingwomen should take care of the health insurance coverage by their employers as many employers pay little attention towards pregnancy coverage as there is no legal requirement that an employer must offer a health plan. The employers want to save money and hence choose the plan that doesn't cover pregnancy.
